The space for companies who are offering developers monetization opportunities using real goods, instead of virtual items, has added another player as Things3D has gone into beta with its 3D monetization platform.
We reported last week that FabZat had updated its SDK, which allows developers to monetize app users by providing the opportunity to purchase real, personalized items, including high definition and full color 3D printing of game characters, vehicles, trophies, and more.
Things3D is going the same route using 3D printing technology to create real goods that mobile users can purchase. The company offers little details on its site other than its in closed beta and it’s offering developers an opportunity to participate.
With the real cost of delivering real goods, it will be interesting to see how much traction these companies will have in getting publishers to use its service. There are a lot of possibilities, especially with gaming, the question will be if users will shell out the bucks to buy real goods and can these be sold at a price where developers can make money.
