The first of its kind, The Oldest Bedtime Story Ever is part fine art and part biblical scholarship. Steeped in the author’s knowledge of biblical criticism, it retells the story from an inclusive perspective, using collage to dynamize the multi-textured history. Expressive collages accessible to all ethnicities bring the imaginative abridgment to life. Narration by English actress Allison Hancock is warm and never patronizing.
Activate the audio by tapping the Hebrew letter symbolizing God—discovered in a different place on each page. Explore the pulldown menu to learn the original context of the stories and find paper credits that read like fashion captions. Social media features invite discussion and recommendation, while “Make It Yourself” templates allow artists of all ages to create their own versions of the illustrations at home.
Orson & Co’s award-winning apps honor the integrity of reading. Founded by an artist and a storyteller, Orson believes the possibilities of iOS touchscreen devices should bring the reader deeper into the story, not distract from it. The combination of text, sound, and image in The Oldest Bedtime Story Ever will engage the contemporary imagination without parents feeling like they have just given their child a video game.
