On Thursday’s blog post Mark provides his thoughts on the speculation of an emerging Android first developer mentality. Interestingly, he points out that in a global app market, most of the tech press that are pushing the theory display a Silicon-Valley-centric mindset, when the reality is “Whilst the two major smartphone platforms may be developed in Silicon Valley and dominate globally, the content and services used on them does not follow that pattern.” It’s a good read and we suggest you check it out at the link below.
Another recent blog post by Mark, “App Industry Picks & Shovels - How to Succeed with Mobile Developer Tools,” discusses the correlation between the success of app developers and the number of third party tools they utilize. His rationale is based on empirical data taken from Vision Mobile’s past annual Developer Economics surveys. As he points out, the numbers show “The vast majority of developers trying to make it without any third party tooling support generate hardly any revenue at all.” He provides some interesting statistical results to back up this trend, and you can check it out at the link below as well.
Finally, we’d like to give you a reminder that this year’s Developer Economics survey is now underway, it only takes a few minutes to take. The report can be accessed here.
