Communication trends and predictions for 2023 from SendBird

Wednesday, January 18, 2023

Richard Harris Richard Harris

John Kim shares his predictions for 2023 including why apps will become a one-stop mobile brand experience for communications, why 2023 will be the beginning of the end for SMS, why AI will help developers implement better moderation capabilities for in-app conversations, and much more.

As Twitter morphs around Elon Musk’s vision and Meta dives deeper into the Metaverse, businesses are reconsidering how they want to communicate with their customers. In 2023, we’ll see not only more companies but a wider variety of companies take a page from WhatsApp, Line, and WeChat as they bring the community and dynamic conversations into their own apps.

2023 predictions from SendBird

1. Any and every app developer and business will be able to quickly and easily build and enjoy in-app messaging capabilities while maintaining brand control and delivering new experiences. This will be the beginning of the end for SMS.

2. Developers will also be able to implement better, yet less intrusive moderation capabilities for these in-app conversations as AI develops greater contextual understanding. By regulating not just the use of words or phrases but rather truly understanding how they are used, safer and more active communities can be built.

3. Apps will become a one-stop mobile brand experience for communications, where users can connect for support, sales, marketing opportunities, and more as well as take part in the traditional chat. As this convergence of capabilities takes place, developers will increasingly rely on APIs to supply the best-of-breed components to create a compelling, cohesive experience at a pace that customers and modern businesses demand.
