AppStore.com by Apple now serving up your app and developer name

If you were paying attention to the commercials on this years SuperBowl you no doubt saw the new Star Trek movie trailer. At the bottom of the title screen was a new link "http://AppStore.com/StarTrekApp!

Apple has un-officially released the new vanity name "AppStore.com" for developers use. It takes away the lengthy itunes link to your apps and lets you use a much more friendly link, for example I tested http://AppStore.com/MonogramMaker and it linked right into the app. I also tested the app company Moonbeam Development by going to http://AppStore.com/MoonbeamDevelopment and guess what - it listed all the apps they make! We tried many others including:

And they all worked just fine.

Some are reporting this only takes affect when you submit a new app but we've found this not to be the case. The new vanity names cannot be created by the developer, they are provided to them by Apple based on their own criteria.

This is a great way to help app promotion because you can now pass around direct links to your apps with just an "AppStore.com/MyApp" type of link. Give your app name a try :)

One side note worth mentioning, “AppStore.com” was a personal gift to Steve Jobs from Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff back in 2008.
