New Free App Store Optimization (ASO) Rating Tool

Localytics has created a new free tool that you can use to grade your App Store Optimization (ASO) called the App Listing Rater. Enter the name of your app, click the button and you can access your app's overall rating broken down into eight key categories including name, reviews, reach, and more. There are no limit to the number of apps you can test.
In addition to analysis based on the eight categories, you'll also receive tips and advice on how you can create a better listing to attract more users that is based on industry standards, recommendations and proven tactics. You'll also have access to an ASO cheat sheet when you’re done to keep on-hand for quick reference on best practices. And if you want to see how your competition is doing (and maybe a way to get a leg up on them) you can check their app listing’s rating as well.
Categories covered include:
- Name
- Details
- Icon
- Design
- Updates
- Ratings
- Pricing
We thought we’d check out how the tool rated a recent top performing app. We decided to check out Turbo Tax by Intuit, whose app was driven up the App Store rankings as US consumers prepared for the US tax season. When we entered the app into the rating tool, we expected it to score well and for most of the categories it did. However the app got dinged for localization because it was only offered in one language. In the US this could be a big deal due to the large Hispanic speaking population. Less critical was that the app’s name was rated as a bit too long and the screenshots in its listing were not the recommended dimensions.
