IBM has been somewhat quietly as the company moved forward with its enterprise app focused partnership with Apple to create IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps. These apps offer enterprise specific options built exclusively for the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch combining IBM’s big data and app analytics capabilities with Apple consumer experience.
There has been a little more noise now as IBM recently announced the availability of its 100th IBM MobileFirst for iOS app. The MobileFirst for iOS app portfolio now offers apps for 14 industries and 65 individual professions including wealth advisors, flight attendants, first responders, nurses and retail buyers. IBM and Apple are continuing to expand the app portfolio to new markets including consumer products, automotive, aging and chemicals and petroleum.
IBM is also currently developing enterprise apps for the iPad Pro that take advantage of the device’s expanded power, performance, larger screen size and iOS 9’s multitasking features, providing the ability to work in two apps side-by-side at the same time. MobileFirst for iOS apps with Apple Pencil support will provide added precision and functionality to tasks, including designing and laying out a room, logging transactions or annotating maintenance logs.
