Confidential computing will emerge as a leading force says Talentica

Wednesday, December 13, 2023

Richard Harris Richard Harris

Pankaj Mendki, the head of Emerging Technology at Talentica Software predicts that confidential computing will emerge as a leading force in 2024, there will be a substantial move beyond traditional Docker containers, and RISC-V will gain widespread acceptance in 2024.

In 2024, the rise of the zero-trust paradigm will drive a significant shift in security models, with confidential computing emerging as a leading force in implementing this transformative approach.

Confidential computing will emerge as a leading force

In the coming year, we can expect an increase in the integration of hardware-based confidential computing as cloud solutions strategically employ it to entice applications with heightened privacy and security demands. This trend will be especially prevalent in specialized domains such as machine learning, financial services, and genomics.

The move beyond traditional Docker containers

As the serverless landscape evolves, there will be a substantial move in 2024 to go beyond traditional Docker containers. By compiling to WebAssembly, a new era of more efficient, lightweight, and universally deployable containers will emerge. Not only does this approach streamline the deployment process, but it also improves security, given WebAssembly's roots in browser execution. Companies will also be able to transcend cloud boundaries and CPU specifications through a seamless ‘develop once and deploy anywhere’ paradigm.

RISC-V will gain widespread acceptance

The adoption of ARM-based machines and infrastructure, driven by a superior price/performance ratio compared to x86, will extend it beyond IoT, encompassing compute-intensive processing in commodity software. Simultaneously, the open instruction architecture of RISC-V will gain widespread acceptance in IoT applications, and there's a growing likelihood of its utilization in edge computing. RISC-V will begin to establish itself as a compelling force in the evolving landscape of computing architectures as it meets the demands of modern applications such as AI/ML, graphics and web over the next few years.
