Capcom targets 50 million video game sales in FY 2024
Capcom is one of the most popular names in the video game industry. The Japanese company is responsible for popular gaming franchises such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and more.
During the past decade, the company has witnessed consistent growth in its sales numbers, and the same is expected in FY 2024.
As per the estimates from Capcom, they expect to sell 50 million games in FY 2024. Capcom’s FY 24 release calendar includes the eagerly-anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds (slated to release in February 2025). The sales numbers for FY 2024 would also include the majority of sales for the much-awaited Dragon’s Dogma ll, which was released on 22nd March 2024.
A healthy 8.9% growth expected in video game sales in 2024
Sales in FY 2024 represent an 8.9% year-on-year increase on 45.89 million units sold in the previous year. These sales numbers add another year to the ongoing era of sustained growth at Capcom. If we look at the past numbers, Capcom managed to sell just 15 million gaming units during FY 2015. Over the course of the next ten years, Capcom has achieved 233.33% growth in its sales

Distribution of digital sales contribute 93.2% of all sales
In the digital age, the popularity of physical games is constantly dwindling. Capcom expects to sell just 3.4m physical copies of their games in FY 2024. Meanwhile, digital sales are expected to reach 46.6 million, 93.2% of total estimated sales.
The share of digital sales has also increased regularly over the years. During FY 2019, digital sales contributed 80.6% of all sales. If we go further back, digital sales were less than 50% of all sales during FY 2015.
"As a result of working this way to meet the expectations of our stakeholders, Capcom has continuously delivered record-high earnings while growing its market capitalization each year. In addition to expectations for growth, I feel this is a result of an appreciation in the social significance placed on entertainment, given its vital role as a source of comfort and strength for people to continue forward in their lives," said Kenzo Tsujimoto, CEO of Capcom.
"The world population surpassed 8 billion people in the latter half of 2022, and it is said that there are 3 billion game players in the world. I imagine that as the digital transformation (DX) accelerates, there will come a time in which our standards for value, including our living environments and the way we perceive things, will also undergo a transformation. At Capcom, we are working to further bolster and spread the Capcom brand worldwide based on a firm understanding of the global sales trends of our content. When it comes to addressing new technologies and fields, we approach development with a long-term view of the environment that surrounds our business," said Kenzo Tsujimoto, CEO of Capcom.
"Capcom also possesses growth potential that exceeds the scope of games, as we are also expanding into major Hollywood motion pictures and esports, utilizing our original, globally popular game content as a springboard. Among the companies driving DX forward we aim to lead entertainment in the digital world. To achieve this, it is imperative that we be as adaptable to change as possible, fueled by the technology and wisdom we’ve accumulated, and guided by our motto of originality and ingenuity. All of us at Capcom will continue to strive forward in building a corporate structure befitting the digital age." said Kenzo Tsujimoto, CEO of Capcom.
