Augmented reality headset by Mira, Prism, has raised $1M and announced new AR SDK.

Mira has recently raised $1 million Seed Plus funding round led by Greylock Partners, Founders Fund Angel, and Macro Ventures, bringing Mira’s total funding raised to date to $2.5 million. The additional funding will be used to provide more resources to the burgeoning developer community and bolster Mira’s content partnership initiatives. Additionally, Mira announced that initial pre-orders for its Developer Edition Prism headset are now shipping to developers, and the beta for its software development kit (SDK) is now available to download.

Powered by the Unity 3D game engine, Mira’s SDK enables creators to develop unique AR experiences or re-tool existing assets for use on the Prism headset and its accompanying remote. Developers can also leverage Mira’s technology to create sophisticated multiplayer experiences, and incorporate Mira’s Spectator Mode, which makes the experiences social and collaborative by allowing users to view a Mira Prism experience in real time from their phone or tablet. The Prism is currently compatible with iPhone 6, 6S, 7, and 8 with support for additional iPhone models and manufacturers coming soon.

“The reception we’ve seen for the Prism headset and our vision for enabling developers to create premium, shared AR experiences has been overwhelming, and we are honored to add the expertise of Greylock Partners, Founders Fund Angel, and Macro Ventures to the fold,” said Ben Taft, co-founder and CEO of Mira. “We’ve already seen select developers build incredible experiences with our SDK, and we’re eager to see what the wider community creates now that our software is more widely available.”

In addition to the Developer Edition Prism headset, Mira will begin shipping the Discovery Edition Prism headset this holiday, with a wider consumer release scheduled for 2018.
