Marmalade Revolutionises Mobile Games Porting with 'iOS on Android' SDK

Marmalade - the award-winning cross-platform development tool – today announced the launch of Marmalade Juice, a unique technology that entirely replaces the need to port iOS games to Android and other platforms.

Marmalade Juice breaks down the barriers for iOS developers looking to target other ecosystems by allowing them to recompile Objective-C and native OS APIs, formerly only usable on iOS and Mac, within the Marmalade SDK. Apps can then be deployed directly to Android, as well as many other Marmalade-supported platforms including BlackBerry, Mac desktop, and selected smart TVs. Optimisations for the target platforms can be made within the original Objective-C codebase, and source-level debugging with the Marmalade simulator is supported..

Marmalade Juice is the only cross-platform SDK for taking Objective-C to multiple other platforms including Android. Using Marmalade Juice’s revolutionary technology, existing apps on iOS can rapidly be brought to a huge range of additional devices.

Marmalade Juice has already been proven by delivering the hugely successful iOS game ‘Tap Paradise Cove’ (Pocket Gems) to Google Play and Amazon Appstore. Written entirely in Objective-C, the Android version was created using Marmalade Juice without requiring a painful code porting exercise. iOS API calls remained intact, and Xcode UI files were able to adapt to address Android screen resolutions.

Arjun Dayal, Android Product Lead, Pocket Gems: “Tap Paradise Cove is already a major hit on iOS, so the opportunity through Marmalade Juice to deploy to additional platforms without rewriting the game was extremely valuable to us. Since launch, we have reached over 1 million additional players on Google Play and Amazon Appstore.”

Harvey Elliott, MD and COO, Marmalade explains: “With our mantra of ‘More Platforms, More Possibilities’ we were frustrated by how many great games are locked exclusively into the iOS ecosystem. Historically, porting games from iOS to other platforms has involved a large amount of resource-heavy recoding from Objective-C to other languages. Marmalade Juice entirely removes this stage, making it more cost-effective for developers to reach even more consumers.”

Marmalade will be running a limited number of private demonstrations of the Marmalade Juice tool at GDC USA. To book an appointment, please contact hello@marmalademail.com. Marmalade staff will be available to chat and answer questions about all of its products at GDC Booth #941.
