Browserbase, following a $40M Series B and new tools like Director.ai, is Building the Future of Web Automation by expanding access to intelligent browser infrastructure, empowering users to automate routine tasks and reshape how the web is used.
Browserbase, the company behind cutting-edge browser infrastructure for automation, announced a major product update recently, reinforcing its vision for the future of intelligent web automation. Founded just 16 months ago, Browserbase has rapidly become foundational to how businesses leverage AI to streamline online workflows.
CEO and Founder Paul Klein shared that what began as a thesis—that AI agents would require robust browser infrastructure—has evolved into a powerful platform now trusted by billion-dollar companies to deliver better outcomes for their customers.
Building the Future of Web Automation: Web Automation as a Foundational Primitive
According to Klein, the most transformative tech companies—such as Twilio, Stripe, and Vercel—share a critical trait: they function as primitives, or essential building blocks, that enable developers to create sophisticated applications. Browser infrastructure, Klein argues, is the next primitive. It represents a fundamental layer for building automated web experiences, empowering developers to redefine how people work online.
A Vision of Selective Automation
Browserbase is betting on a future where browsing is partially automated. While humans will continue to handle exploratory and creative tasks, repetitive, routine interactions—such as booking travel or sending messages—will increasingly be managed by intelligent software. Browserbase aims to serve as the operating rail for this shift, enabling a new generation of AI-powered tools that handle the mundane so people can focus on what truly matters.
Klein acknowledges a common sentiment among developers: the desire to avoid repetitive tasks. Browserbase, he said, is the ultimate expression of that mindset.
Platform Expansion and New Features
Coinciding with a $40 million Series B financing round led by Notable Capital—with participation from existing investors CRV and Kleiner Perkins—Browserbase announced three major platform upgrades:
- Director.ai: This new product empowers non-developers to automate the web. Director allows users to generate Stagehand scripts and deploy them on Browserbase, significantly broadening the platform's accessibility. Historically focused on developers, the company now sees the potential to support a far wider user base.
- Stagehand for Python: In addition to Node.js, Browserbase now supports Python, one of the most widely used programming languages. The Python integration includes advanced observability tools in the Browserbase dashboard, such as session recordings, token usage tracking, and detailed logging.
- Lower Pricing: To make web automation more accessible, Browserbase has overhauled its pricing structure:
- The Hobby Developer plan is now $20/month (previously $39), offering 100 browser hours and 1 GB of proxy usage.
- The Developer plan’s concurrency limits have increased from 3 to 25 browsers.
- The Startup plan's concurrency has doubled from 25 to 50 browsers.
- New variable-size browser instances (small, medium, large) are now available for scale customers.
Long-Term Commitment and Innovation
With its Series B funding, Browserbase plans to deepen its innovation in browser technology and surrounding infrastructure. The team sees this as a long-term commitment to shaping the automation layer of the web.
While the company acknowledges growing competition, it welcomes the momentum such a large market brings. Klein emphasizes that innovation lifts the entire ecosystem and benefits all users.
Looking ahead, Browserbase remains focused on a single mission: helping everyone automate the web. By building the best infrastructure, the most flexible framework, and the most approachable automation tools, the company is positioning itself at the forefront of a fundamental shift in how people work online.
Browserbase was founded by Paul Klein in 2024. Klein is a 3x founder who sold his previous company to Mux in 2023.
