Gopal K. Chopra M.D. is the co-founder, President and CEO of pingmd, Inc., a New York City-based healthcare solutions company designed to advance communications and restore the relationships between patients, physicians and their colleagues. Dr. Chopra is an experienced neurosurgeon and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of strategic advisory, investment and operational experience in the healthcare sector, and has worked with early stage as well as large cap private and public companies in developed and emerging markets. Today, Dr. Chopra is devoted to dedicating his experience as a skilled surgeon, entrepreneur and thought leader to creating innovative, intuitive and meaningful solutions for the healthcare industry that will ultimately change the face of healthcare communications. He is passionate about restructuring healthcare delivery and access through the convergence of intuitive technological innovations and disciplined design workflows that enhance personal relationships. As an Associate Professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in North Carolina Dr. Chopra teaches the MBA Health Sector Management program and he is also the founder and host of Duke University’s Consumer and Wireless Healthcare conference. Prior to founding the innovative health solutions company pingmd, Inc., Dr. Chopra was a senior investment banker in the healthcare group of Lazard Frères. There he focused on medical devices and diagnostics and advised on strategic deals across mergers & acquisitions, IPOs, PIPEs and private financings. He has practiced as a neurosurgeon in Australia, India, Canada and the U.S., and has held faculty appointments at Stanford University and the University of Melbourne. Dr. Chopra has also worked at Boston Scientific Corporation in business development and co-founded two medical device companies where he served in a business development role. As a key advisor to many of the major medical venture firms, he holds numerous patents to his name. He has participated in the evolution of minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, endovascular catheterization, information systems, robotics, surgical navigation and optimization of surgical workflows. Dr. Chopra has managed many strategic review and analysis teams for companies including Boston Scientific, MIS spine, Kimberly Clark, Stryker medical and Sony Healthcare. His guidance enabled them to review strategic opportunities, properly analyze market modeling and the competitive landscape, as well as assess mergers and acquisitions opportunities. Dr. Chopra obtained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne in Australia, his degree in neurosurgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Australia and his master’s degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Dr. Chopra is married to pediatrician Manju Chopra M.D. They live in New York with their two sons. Dr. Chopra is passionate about positive change by design, implementing observational, behavioural insights to create meaningful solutions.
