Intel Releases C++ Compiler v13.0 for Android App Developers

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Richard Harris Richard Harris

Intel’s latest release of its C++ Compiler is being promoted as a way to soup up performance for Android apps running on Intel processers. App developers can use this release of the compiler on a Linux-based development system and then install the developed application on an Android device or publish it to the Google Play store.

While the compiler produces code that runs only on Android devices that use Intel processors, it is highly compatible with the GNU C++ compiler that is part of the Android NDK, which, for many developers using a C++ compiler, is probably the most widely used set of such tools. This means developers can take the code they developed with the GNU C++ in mind and, instead, use the Intel C++ compiler for Android OS.

The Intel C++ Compiler for Android OS shares a common base with other Intel C++ compilers and is founded on the Intel13.0 code-base.

For this release only and for a limited time, download the compiler is available at no charge. Developers can download a copy by going to the Intel Developer Zone, then click on the “Android” section, then, in the Overview section, click on the entry for Intel C++ Compiler for Android OS. The “Download” button is in the upper right corner.
