New HP Access Catalog Joins the Growing Ranks of Enterprise App Store Solutions

You won’t see the folks at Microsoft jumping up and down regarding the announcement by HP of its new Access Catalog service, which can include iOS, Android and HTML5 apps, but not Microsoft and Blackberry.

HP’s enterprise app store joins a growing number of companies including Good Technology and others offering private app store services for enterprises. HP’s offering, HP Access Catalog, is delivered via native mobile clients and a web interface, allowing companies to bridge the gap between supporting BYOD device initiatives and managing access to corporate applications, documentation and other digital resources.

The HP Access Catalog also is offered as an integrated component of the HP Anywhere enterprise mobility platform, enabling HP Anywhere customers to manage their mobile apps. The same technology also is used to support the recently announced HP Vertica Marketplace, an online store where HP customers and developers will find additional downloads to support HP Vertica deployments.

Private enterprise app store offerings may be the key to the ultimate adoption of HTML5 development platforms offered by HP, Intel and others. The simplest way to get around different operating systems is through the use of web apps that will run on virtually any smartphone. And the trend with enterprise app stores is to support iOS, Android and HTML5. Does an employee have a Blackberry or Windows based OS? That’s ok, they can still use the HTML5 app. And that goes for desktop, tablets and other smart devices.
