Each week Distimo provides an overview of the most notable new apps and movements in the app stores. The top performing apps are presented based on relative growth and absolute achievements in downloads or revenues on a global level.

All data is directly extracted from Distimo AppIQ, which provides insights into the estimated download volumes and revenues of all apps in the most important app stores on a daily basis.

In the Apple App Store games continued to lead the way with Sprinkle Islands by publisher Mediocre AB as the highest newly ranked app in the global free charts. The newly released adventure game Call of Duty: Strike Team by Activision Publishing struck the global paid charts as the highest newly ranked app. Bucking the gaming trend, Rhonna Designs (a photo design app), reach a 22 global rank in the free charts due in part to its designation as Apple’s “Free App of the Week.” Other newly released games scoring a high rank in the global charts were Giant Boulder of Death, Doctor X: Vampire Edition, and SimpleRockets.

In the Google Play store race game Neon Motocross increased its device installs by over 60% compared to the previous week and was the highest mover in Google Play’s global free charts. In the paid charts Worms 2: Armageddon moved up significantly in the global ranks, more than doubling paid installs after the game was offered for a lower price.

The quiz app What The Riddle? by publisher Rainy Day Apps was the biggest mover, ranking number one in the United States. Bingo Summer Splash made the global top five and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City by Rockstar Games gained a top position in the paid charts passing Asphalt 8: Airborne (Kindle Tablet Edition) with 18% more downloads in the United States. Pocket Rally and Tennis in the Face gained high positions in the free charts after a feature as free app of the day.
