Windows Dev Center Eliminates “Explore Store Trends Section” to Emphasize Blog Summary Posts

Posted on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Sometimes the best intentions don’t pan out. In the past the Window’s Dev Team has been sharing information in the Explore Store Trends section of the Windows Store Dashboard, including some user demographics and catalog information.

As they very diplomatically said in a recent blog post, “Very few developers used these reports, and we received feedback that the presentation was not useful enough to improve your apps.”

So now they are moving to a new format to provide this information, with what they are calling “periodic Windows Store Trends summary blog posts that will be used to share different views of the Windows Store.”

The first of these posts shares statistics about the most popular categories in the Windows Store app catalog, as well as highlights which app categories have the highest download opportunity. In the graph shown here, the data is based on the Windows Store app downloads between August 1st and October 31st, 2013.

Other analysis is provided on the blog which can be found at the link below.
