Want to work as a freelancer, your not alone

In this day and age, to not need a secured biweekly salary of a 9-5 job is akin to winning the career lottery. Well, it may not be quite as rare, given that there are currently 53 million Americans who are currently freelancers, which represent just 34% of the total U.S. labor force, but one can say this is indeed the dream of most Americans in the labor force.

The demand for all types of developers has never been higher, with new technologies, distribution platforms and emerging markets (Uh, can anybody say augmented reality?) being developed every day, and anyone with sufficient programming knowledge and a good idea can code an application and upload it to the App Store or Google Play store or even make a killing by selling the software directly to companies.

The freelance job market is predicted to rise by 40 million workers by 2019, up from 53 million freelancers in the current workforce, with businesses moving towards hiring contractors due to the rising cost of healthcare insurance premiums to the tune of 81% since 2004.

All that may be fine and dandy, but what are some of the perks developers can enjoy working as a freelancer in this ever-changing economy, with the way business has been evolving?
