The US Department of Commerce is now offering the Commerce Data Academy to help educate and empower employees within the Department of Commerce to make data-driven decisions. The academy is tasked with enhancing the contribution of data to the economy by helping the 12 Bureaus of the U.S. Department of Commerce create and develop projects to advance the Department's mission.
Organized as a new shared services model, the Data Service tackles core infrastructure issues around the Commerce Department. The training is open to both US Department of Commerce contractors and employees. The courses offered are broken down in four areas:
Front-End Development: Covers the use of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and jQuery.
Back-End Development: Provides training on Python, Ruby, or Node.js programming languages along with server-side frameworks such as Flask, Django, Rails or Express.js. Courses also providing training on how to model, store, manipulate, and access data using databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB.
Data-Science: Provide insight on how to transform raw data into insights, products, and applications to empower data-driven decision making.
UX/UI Design: Training covers user experience(UX) design and user interface (UI), accessibility.
