Telit IoT AppZone Development Environment Now Supports Android

Posted on Friday, February 19, 2016 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Telit has released the next new generation of its Telit IoT AppZone application development environment (ADE), which now supports the Android open source framework.

The expanded environment will allow developers to leverage their experience with Android, using the same tools and APIs in a framework they are familiar with, reducing IoT development time and effort. The new IoT AppZone includes tools and libraries for mobile data provisioning and management through Telit IoT Connectivity services and for thing-to-cloud data integration and application enablement with Telit IoT Platform services.

The Telit IoT AppZone is an ADE comprised of an integrated development environment (IDE) based on Eclipse and Android Studio with Telit developed plugins delivering functionality such as enhanced project creation wizard, application deployment and configuration, debug tools and interface to software version control systems. It is a part of the Telit IoT Portal, which is a one stop resource center for developers to connect IoT devices, apps, cloud, and IT systems.

The IoT AppZone now leverages the Android framework and APIs which Telit has tailored and enhanced with extensions for IoT modules and services, using building blocks and architecture. Leveraging framework security architecture and components, the ADE offers developers a set of threat mitigating components including support for secure boot, application sandboxing and cryptographic APIs.

The ADE’s full integration with other Telit products and services, including a wide range of specially designed products for the automotive sector, allows developers to build IoT systems from device to cloud, enabling complete end-to-end solutions. Its IoT optimized architecture allows developers to collect information from sensors directly or through short-range wireless modules, send data securely to the cloud, publish or interface with enterprise systems using an IoT Platform agent and the IoT Portal; and to deploy and update firmware and applications over-the-air, manage configuration files and security.
