Red Hat AI revealed at KubeCon 2023

Posted on Friday, November 10, 2023 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

At KubeCon 2023 Red Hat made a number of announcements for its hybrid cloud portfolio, including the general availability of Red Hat Device Edge and Red Hat OpenShift 4.14; new certified plug-ins for the Backstage community; and Red Hat’s vision for AI and automation.

Red Hat Device Edge is now generally available

Red Hat Device Edge aggregates an enterprise-ready and supported distribution of the Red Hat-led open-source community project MicroShift (a lightweight Kubernetes project built from the edge capabilities of Red Hat OpenShift) along with an edge-optimized operating system built from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. With general availability, Red Hat Device Edge now also includes Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform for more consistent Day 1 and Day 2 management of hundreds to thousands of sites and devices. Customers and partners including ABB, Lockheed Martin, Intel, Guise.AI, and more are already working with Red Hat on implementations.

The power of AI is open - Red Hat's AI vision

To survive and advance in today’s economic and technological climate, business leaders must prioritize implementing AI in a strategic, holistic, and timely manner. Enterprises have to consider how AI can help solve complex challenges across every area of their business–specifically those involving security and privacy. If organizations want to equip themselves to use AI effectively, they must be able to combine technologies to operationalize their AI use cases from idea to production, use AI to drive agility and efficiency within existing teams, tools, and processes, and meet standards just as they do with other business applications. Combining the collaborative
nature of open source with the power of AI enables Red Hat to help enterprises solve the world’s problems more effectively and quickly than many would have thought possible before the emergence of AI.

Celebrating the release of Podman Desktop 1.5

Podman Desktop continues to improve opportunities for businesses to transform the way they operate through new features that help increase productivity, reduce costs, and streamline developer workflows. With the release of version 1.5 this week, users can get up and running faster with new guided setup and configuration wizards, and gain a deeper view of key metadata with an expanded summary tab for Kubernetes pods.

Red Hat simplifies and expands application development with new capabilities in Red Hat OpenShift

Red Hat OpenShift 4.14 is designed to help further simplify infrastructure complexities and application development for development, operations, and security teams. Red Hat OpenShift 4.14 includes the general availability of hosted control planes for Red Hat OpenShift on bare metal and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, increased flexibility and options for how and where organizations run OpenShift, and new security enhancements to help users mitigate risks and better meet compliance requirements.

Red Hat expands contribution to the backstage project with new plug-ins

Red Hat donates new back-end plugins to the Backstage community, expanding the capabilities available to developers through the platform and making it easier for them to integrate the technologies into their existing pipelines. The contribution builds on the list of plug-ins already donated to the community by Red Hat and reinforces Red Hat's commitment to helping users get the most out of their Backstage implementations.

Enabling AI at the edge with Red Hat Ansible Inside

Red Hat Ansible Inside allows Red Hat partners to easily embed Ansible Playbook execution inside their application products, enabling simple automation capabilities and components without the infrastructure or management overhead. With Ansible Inside, Guise AI delivers an EdgeOps platform to more easily manage remote edge devices and deploy AI applications at scale.
