Imagination's new PowerVR imaging framework helps OEMs to better improve their processing performance through using a variety of Android applications.

PowerVR imaging framework for Android provide OEMs a way to integrate the newest features for computer vision and computational photography within their camera applications. PowerVR’s imaging framework for Android allows OEMs to benefit from inherent low-power parallelism of its PowerVR Rogue GPU.

Advanced vision and computational photography features from PowerVR imaging framework give OEMs more sustainable video-rate processing of HD content. The features securely integrate the GPU with such a camera sensor and with other system components.

The features allow Imagination’s OEM partners to execute cutting-edge vision features with PowerVR GPUs performance and power efficiency.

The CPU and other SoC-specific hardware used to build the programmable image processing pipeline can be integrated in an OEM’s camera application conveniently. The imaging framework for PowerVR make it easy for Imagination’s customers and their OEMs to differentiate their camera applications using their existing SoCs, all without adding to the hardware cost, stated Peter McGuinness, director of multimedia technology marketing, Imagination. Kai Pang, senior product manager, ASUS, also noted that Imagination’s PowerVR imaging delivers better features to mass-market products that now can be accessed by a wider audience.

The PowerVR imaging framework for Android also is developed based on a set of extensions to both the EGL application programming and OpenCL interfaces (APIs). This enables YUV and RGB camera data more efficiency in its zero-copy sampling.

Imagination is also collaborating with many software partners in efforts to display its new computational photography and vision solutions at CES 2015. McGuinness also added that the company is making its imaging platform available to lead partners under an early access program and are excited to see the excellent progress of its software partners in building up the vision ecosystem around the foundational PowerVR computing technology.

The company is in a unique position to assist its partners in developing innovative vision systems. Valuable information is present and readily available for its partners by providing in-depth expertise and knowledge of GPUs, imaging processors, video encoders and embedded CPUs and more.
