PayPal's Braintree Launches New Mobile App Payments SDK

Posted on Thursday, July 17, 2014 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Braintree has released its new mobile payments platform, v.zero SDK, which offers customizable drop-in UI features across platforms and, for the first time, enables Pay with PayPal. The company says that developers can integrate the SDK, set up payments and be up and running in 15 minutes or less.

The Braintree v.zero SDK features:

- Pay with PayPal: With the Braintree v.zero SDK, merchants can accept payments through PayPal without needing to do a separate integration. Developers can now tap into PayPal’s base of over 148 million active customers, giving them the opportunity to scale their businesses with just a few lines of code. Users can pay with PayPal either on a one-time basis, or store their PayPal credentials for pre-approved future payments, without leaving the merchant’s site.

- Fully optimized Drop-in UI: The Braintree v.zero SDK provides a simple way to integrate a checkout solution that can have developers quickly up and running and ready to accept payments without investing hours on an integration or sacrificing control of their customers’ experiences. For more sophisticated commerce sites and apps, the Braintree v.zero SDK is flexible enough to be completely customizable. This allows merchants to grow, scale and fully control the user experience.

- Engineered for the future: The Braintree v.zero SDK is designed so that feature updates will be simple to add.

Using the new SDKs for the web (Javascript) or mobile (iOS & Android) facilitates the integration to accept PayPal by simply as adding code to position the PayPal button in the checkout flow and then sending the resulting token from the server to Braintree to create the transaction. Braintree takes care of serving the button and all of the PayPal interaction.

The new Drop-in UI is a completely optional form that merchants can use when building their checkout that leverages best-in-class practices. These include full mobile web responsive design, auto-detection of the card brand, client-side validation of the primary account number and expiration date, and Control Panel toggling of AVS and CVV checks.
