JavaScript API edition of Dynamsoft's barcode SDK released

Posted on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 by AUSTIN HARRIS, Global Sales

Dynamsoft has updated its Barcode Reader Software Development Kit as a pure JavaScript API Edition, based on WebAssembly, to enable cross-browser and cross-platform online barcode scanning.

These new features will empower developers with new conveniences for users. Users can scan barcodes in real-time from a browser using their smartphone without requiring an app download. The new JavaScript barcode reader supports real-time localization and decoding of various 1D and 2D barcodes from static images. It also supports decoding from a camera’s video live stream whether from desktops, tablets, or mobile devices. This includes from device-independent bitmap (DIB) formats which can be obtained from cameras or scanners. Scanning can be accomplished for multiple barcodes at a time. The new barcode reader web API enables developers to implement browser-based barcode reading across varying computing devices.

About the Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK

Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK enables application developers to efficiently embed barcode reading functionality in their web, desktop and mobile applications using just a few lines of code, removing months of additional work and costs associated with coding from scratch. With the SDK, end users can decode barcodes from various image file formats (BMP, JPG, PNG, PDF, and TIFF) or video live streams. This includes black/white, color or grayscale images. Barcode reading results include: format, text, bytes, angle, module size, the name of the document including the barcode, page number, region name, and the coordinates of the barcode vertices.

Supported developer platforms include Windows (C, C++, .NET, JavaScript), Linux (C/C++), iOS (Objective-C and Swift), and Android (Java). Supported 1D barcodes (linear barcodes) include Code 39, Code 128, Code 93, Codabar, Interleaved 2 of 5, Industrial 2 of 5, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E. Supported 2D barcodes include QR code, Data Matrix, PDF417, and now Aztec Code. There are also Mac and Raspberry Pi editions available as Labs projects.
