Github announces new Marketplace at their Satellite Conference

Posted on Monday, May 22, 2017 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

At GitHub’s user conference in London, they have announced GitHub Marketplace, and more availability for both GitHub Apps and their GraphQL.

Here’s a quick overview of all of the new products and tools:

- GitHub Marketplace: launching at Satellite, Marketplace is a new way for developers to discover and purchase tools to use across their workflows. Users will be able to use more than a dozen integrators and not have to worry about setting up multiple accounts or payment methods - everything will be able to be set up (for both integrators and developers) simply and directly through GitHub.

- GraphQL API: GraphQL will now be production ready for their community to use. GraphQL API simplifies product development by letting developers access all the data they need, and only the data they need, with one API call. This gives their users the ability to use the same tools their engineers use to power GitHub.

- GitHub Apps (formerly Integrations): now Apps will also have more availability, giving integrators much faster access in building tools for their platform. They are knocking down limitations that most APIs have and is enabling their customers to build in parallel alongside GitHub.

All of these products/tools further their goal of making software development more approachable and helping its community be more productive by bringing the tools they need to them - wherever they code.

'Today, we’re building on our launches at GitHub Universe 2016 - making it easier than ever to evolve and customize your workflow. Find integrations and put them to work in minutes with GitHub Marketplace, pair developer tools and fine-grained repository permissions with GitHub Apps, or build the exact tool you need with a new, production-ready version of our GraphQL API. Together, these tools give you everything you need to set up a custom workflow that grows with your goals.' said Github in a blog post on their latest announcement.
