Dropbox Announces Three New APIs at First Annual DBX Developers Conference

Posted on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

It's not easy to follow up San Francisco mega developer events such as Microsoft Build and Apple's WWDC, however Dropbox has done an admirable job so far with its version, the DBX Developers Conference.

Of course, no self respecting developer conference would be without the announcement of new introductions and Dropbox has done so with the introduction of three new APIs.

Included was the beta release of the Datastore API that offers simple databases for apps with Dropbox sync built-in. Developers can use datastores to save an app's data - settings, contacts, or any other content that users create - and Dropbox will take care of all syncing. Datastore-enabled apps offer user the peace of mind that their information will always be up-to-date and available, no matter what device or platform they use. With Datastore Explorer developers can see what's going on in their app as the data changes to help speed up development and simplify debugging.

Also announced were enhancements to The Chooser, a Drobbox product introduced last November that allows developers to integrate Dropbox into apps. The newly introduced Chooser for iOS and Android allows app users to bring their files into their app directly from Dropbox.

Rounding out the announcements was Saver, Dropboxes newest Drop-in. It lets users save files from an app directly to Dropbox with a single click. The Saver is now available for web apps with native versions for iOS and Android to be announced at a later date.
