Digimarc Releases Mobile App SDK for Scanning Consumer Barcodes

Posted on Monday, November 2, 2015 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Digimarc has released the Digimarc Discover mobile software development kit (SDK) for scanning consumer barcodes. The Digimarc SDK offers several proprietary optimizations that improve scanning of the most common retail barcodes with mobile devices which consumers often use to research and reveal pricing and product information.

Consumers using third-party iOS and Android mobile apps using the Digimarc SDK can now scan at greater angles, and get faster, more accurate responses from distorted or damaged barcodes. Digimarc is also introducing a simpler, more intuitive interface that eliminates the need to precisely frame barcodes within the camera.

The SDK is optimized for scanning traditional 1D barcodes most frequently used at retail (UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN 8, EAN 13, Code 39, Code 128). The current release includes iOS 9 support and improved detection of Digimarc Barcodes in audio, which enables a range of audience measurement, content monetization and so-called second screen broadcast applications. Other new features include Android bug fixes and technical improvements for performance.

Supported platforms include: (1) iOS Xcode 6.0 or newer and SDK version iOS 7.0 or newer and (2) Android 2.3 and Android 4.x and Eclipse 4.2.2 or Android Studio 1.2.
