Development Orbs from CircleCI help with speed to market

Posted on Monday, January 27, 2020 by BRITTANY HAINZINGER, Social Editor

In partnership with more than 20 companies, CircleCI is releasing a number of new Orbs that provide simple out-of-the-box solutions for building, testing, updating, and deploying applications.

It has been established that nearly 50 percent of developer time is spent writing new code, improving existing code, and managing code maintenance. To improve speed to market, CircleCI has designed a suite of deployment orbs to allow developers to choose where they want to deploy to based on their current setup and workflows and creates an integration in minutes using a pre-packaged config.

Previously, developers would have needed to spend hours learning various commands and syntax required to configure, build, and push container images correctly. Now, using CircleCI's new orbs, they can achieve the same functionality with just half a dozen lines of pre-packaged config for Google Cloud, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Salesforce, and a dozen more partners.

A little over one year ago CircleCI launched Orbs and in that time the feature has taken off. More than 1,200 Orbs have been created (95% by CircleCI's community) and currently used by more than 13,000 organizations. Nearly one third of the 30M+ jobs created on CircleCI every month are utilizing Orbs, which showcases just how essential it has become to DevOps. With more than 600,000 active developers today, CircleCI is one of the largest software build platforms in the world.

Jan 22nd, at 9 am PST, the following partners will now be directly integrated with CircleCI through the following deploy Orbs: Heroku, AWS, Cloud Foundry, Google Cloud, RedHat, Helm, Kublr, Alcide, Azure, DeployHub, Fairwinds, VMware, Kubernetes, Rafay Systems, Pulumi, Convox, Spinnaker, realMethods, Quali, Pantheon, LaunchDarkly, and Salesforce.

“Google Cloud Run helps developers run stateless containers and focus on writing high-value code, without worrying about the underlying infrastructure. By launching these new tools, CircleCI is enabling developers to further streamline and simplify their experience on Cloud Run, ultimately helping businesses bring new services and products to their customers more quickly.” --  Rayn Veerubhotla, Director, Hybrid Partnerships at Google Cloud

"Salesforce is excited to announce that we have been working with CircleCI to make Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) easier to set up. Many Salesforce development teams already use CircleCI as their DevOps solution so we thought it was only natural to team up and make using CircleCI with Salesforce even better. This is just our first orb and we plan on collaborating on more in 2020 to build out a full suite for a variety of different use cases. Teams will now be able to string together different orbs to create a robust CI/CD pipeline for Salesforce development." - Claire Bianchi, Senior Product Manager at Salesforce
