In today’s fast-paced professional world, effective communication is more important than ever. Whether you’re in a job interview, delivering a presentation, or simply engaging in daily conversations, the way you speak can significantly impact how others perceive you. Many people unknowingly undermine their credibility by frequently using filler words such as "like," "um," and "you know." These habits can make even the most intelligent and competent individuals sound hesitant or unprofessional.
Enter Credible, the speech coaching app designed to help users refine their speaking habits in real-time. Unlike traditional speech coaching programs that provide delayed feedback, Credible listens as you speak and instantly alerts you when a filler word is detected. This immediate feedback mechanism enables users to become more aware of their speech patterns and make adjustments on the spot, leading to noticeable improvements over time. Whether you're a student preparing for presentations, a professional looking to enhance workplace communication, or simply someone who wants to sound more confident in everyday conversations, Credible provides a seamless and discreet solution. By leveraging advanced machine learning and personalized coaching, Credible empowers individuals to present their thoughts clearly and effectively, helping them leave a lasting impression in any setting.

The company was founded in June 2023, and Credible was launched on the app store in April 2024, with a big update in November 2024.
Campbell Conard is the inventor and founder of Credible. She is currently a senior at the University of Chicago, majoring in economics. She wants to help young people, getting ready for professional careers, and particularly young women, to stop saying “like,” “ya know,” and any other words that are getting in the way of your success. Campbell wants to help people be judged for the quality of their thoughts and not the way those thoughts are presented.
Credible fills the need for real-time and constant feedback on filler word use in casual conversations. The immediate alerts help the user become aware of their speech and can make real-time adjustments to break the habit of filler word use.
Other apps and programs only listen to you speak and let you know how often you use a filler word after you are done talking, which is completely useless. Or, only work while you are in an online Zoom meeting.
Awareness-based training in speech is a well-studied method for improving your speech and the technique used by Toastmasters International, a public speaking club. In Toastmasters, there is an “um” counter that alerts the speaker, while they are giving a speech if they said “um”.
"We want people to be judged by the quality of their thoughts and not the way those thoughts are presented," said Campbell Conard
We are on version 1.5 of the app. The early version launched in April 2024, with a few updates over the next few months. The big update came in November 2024, when we launched progress and streak tracking, and provided users a speech score.
Credible is the only app that gives the user real-time alerts in a casual conversation, not on a Zoom call. Other apps only work on a computer, or provide feedback after you are done speaking.
Because Credible can be on and listening in any conversation, online, in person, or anywhere, improving doesn’t require practice. The real-time alerts just make you more aware during the conversations you were already going to have.
We plan to continue to improve the custom machine learning models for improved speech recognition and the speaker verification model that is trained on the device.
We also plan to add levels to the progress tracking, with more customized suggestions based on the user's individual progress.
We are also working on a feature to track the speed of speech and give users a word-per-minute count to help speakers control the pace of their speech, typically that means slowing down.
