A Mobile App Developer's Checklist for the New iPhone 6 Launch: Don't Miss Out on the Wave of New Users

Posted on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

The upcoming announcement and launch of Apple’s new offerings is going to create a stampede of people updating their devices to the latest greatest Apple device.

And that means that they will be paying a lot of attention to the apps on these devices. When the first iPhone 5 came out Fisku, in their App Store Competitive Index, saw app downloads soar to 5.40 million daily downloads in October 2012, a 33% increase from September. This launch should outpace that by far.

Let’s face it, users who have had their smart device for a while tend to take it (and their apps) for granted. It’s like buying a new car, when you get it, you want to play with all the bells and whistles. A new device means transferring information from the old one to the new one, reexamining images and other content on the device, and reacquainting with apps.

It’s going to provide a unique opportunity for mobile developers to reengage users who already have their app and gain exposure to a whole group of new potential users.

So, how do you make sure your app stands out in the crowd? And how do you ensure that your app is ready to meet new user expectations? It’s all about differentiating yourself from the other apps they could be exploring.

Those questions and more are addressed in a new article by Localytics: “The Eight Things You Need To Do To Get Your App Ready for the iPhone 6 Launch.” In the article, they provide a checklist of eight different topics covering what developers should do to prepare for the new devices.

For each topic covered, Localytics provides links to additional resources to dive deeper into how to accomplish the goals that are discussed. These “Required Readings” provide an additional how-to roadmap for developers to follow.

New Apple devices, especially an expected new look phone, don’t come everyday. They are a rare event. And these launches are typically timed to push through the huge holiday season. If you already have an iOS app, you would be foolish not to prepare yourself for this opportunity. If you have an app in the works, you better get it out there fast. For either situation, Localytic's advice will make it much more likely for you to see success.
