Webroot Launches New Cybersecurity Service for the Internet of Things

Posted on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Webroot has released the Webroot BrightCloud Threat Intelligence for IoT Gateways, which provides a cybersecurity service for Internet of Things (IoT) Gateway partners and developers of IoT solutions to augment real-time protection against malicious threats, unauthorized network access, and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. It provides a set of threat intelligence services and lightweight embedded device software, which is optimized to provide future-proof protection against modern malware, zero-day exploits, and other advanced threats.

As IoT gateways emerge as a preferred network element to securely connect legacy and next-generation devices to the IoT, many are built without sufficient security or intelligence to properly protect critical infrastructure. The new BrightCloud Threat Intelligence for IoT Gateways enables IoT Solution providers, IoT platform providers, and managed security service providers (MSSPs) to secure their systems against advanced and persistent network based threats.

The Webroot approach to IoT security is based on collective threat intelligence and the benefits of machine learning. By utilizing tens of millions of threat sensors around the world, the company can analyze new threats and exploits as fast as cybercriminals launch them, and actively correlate global threat data for up-to-the-minute protection and policy enforcement.

The platform offers a high performance, small footprint software agent technology to monitor behavior, detect, defend, and remediate in real-time, with highly accurate intelligence to automatically block inbound threats and ensure integrity of outbound communications. It automatically block threats with highly accurate intelligence on dynamically changing malicious IPs and provides control where IoT devices and gateways can connect, ensuring proper communication to approved data centers and remote sites.
