VMworld 2018 has launched from the dock, debuting a ton of new cloud technology that ranges from multi-cloud operations to relational database services. To celebrate the company’s 20th year anniversary, Pat Gelsinger, VMware CEO, and Ray O’Farrell, VMware CTO acquaint the audience with what superpowers it takes to make it in the world of technology.

The day’s events were full of virtualization app workshops, showcase keynotes, and speaking sessions. And just in case you missed it, here’s all of the top news that you need to know about!

VMworld 2018 highlights:

VMware Cloud Services: a new Cloud operation services SaaS platform will help address the challenges faced by multi-cloud and includes new cloud automation features.

“VMware is building on on the proven leadership of our VMware vRealize cloud management platform to deliver an integrated set of SaaS services that address cloud operations challenges in a unified way that works consistently across native public clouds and the private cloud,” said Raghu Raghuram, chief operating officer, Products and Cloud Services, VMware. “Through our comprehensive cloud operations platform, customers will be better equipped to create value, improve business performance and reduce risk by more effectively managing, securing and operating workloads in the cloud.”

VMware expands its Hybrid Cloud Portfolio: vSphere Platinum Edition has been dropped in order to better secure apps and infrastructures and further ease HCI adoption.

“While our customers’ needs and priorities stretch far and wide, we’re focused on driving innovations that will provide them with a digital foundation to meet their future IT needs while creating critical linkage that will help them get the most out of their existing IT investments,” said Rajiv Ramaswami, chief operating officer, Products and Cloud Services, VMware. “We continue to invest in infrastructure software for computing, networking, storage, and management that customers can count on to more securely and efficiently support the apps, data, people, and processes that will impact and power their businesses for decades.”

VMware NSX: The NSX security portfolio has been updated to provide developers with tools to enable intrinsic security for applications.

According to Forrester, 89 percent of enterprises use at least two clouds and 74 percent are using at least three or more public clouds. With NSX, VMware empowers IT to build software-based virtual networks, gain network visibility and manage security policies from a single place for all applications across a multi-cloud, heterogeneous landscape.

VMware acquisition of CloudHealth: At VMworld 2018, VMware announced that they have signed documents in order to acquire CloudHealth Technologies, a cloud operations platform.

Amazon RDS comes to VMware: VMware-based software-defined data centers and hybrid environments will soon be able to migrate to AWS using the new Amazon Relational Database Service which will support Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB databases.

“When we originally partnered on VMware Cloud on AWS, our message was clear - we’re giving customers what they want, the best of both worlds from the leaders in private and public cloud. With Amazon RDS for VMware, we’re doing it again,” said Pat Gelsinger, Chief Executive Officer, VMware. “This time we’re taking innovation from AWS and bringing it to the hundreds of thousands of customers that have made VMware their private cloud infrastructure of choice. With this offering from AWS and VMware, end users and database administrators alike now have access to a cloud-like database management experience, in whatever environment they choose to run - private or public cloud. This type of game-changing innovation shows the depth of the partnership VMware and AWS have and the mutual commitment to listening to customers and delivering new and unimaginable value to help drive their digital transformation.”
