NodeSource Adds New Functionality to Monitor Node.js at Scale

NodeSource has announced updates to its N|Solid platform which provides enterprise-grade tools and software that targets the needs of running server-side JavaScript at scale. N|Solid runtime tracks and builds off Node.js LTS releases, then augments Node.js with added tuning and management functionality providing enhanced node-heapdump, a v8-profiler offering insight and understanding for Node applications and services.

With the introduction of N|Solid v1.2 there is new functionality that simplifies monitoring Node by the ability to identify analyze performance issues through visualizations that scale to hundreds of processes and hosts. N|Solid complements APM solutions by providing a granular, high-frequency view of Node applications as well as the underlying runtime and host.

The N|Solid Console was designed to provide a drill-down experience for monitoring performance across an entire Node environment. The Cluster view provides a live scatterplot of CPU and memory utilization - across an application’s services - that enables visual identification of individual process outliers.

With the N|Solid v1.2 release, users are able to assign multiple, user-defined tags to every process. These tags can be used as filters in the N|Solid Console Cluster view to provide focus when triaging performance issues. Users are able to tag processes with additional identifiers relating to an application’s role, hosting environment, development or production area or any attribute that would aid rapid identification. In addition, processes can be filtered by hostname, process title and process ID (PID) to create a subset of processes from a much larger environment, shortening process selection time.

N|Solid v1.2 also adds StatsD integration that facilitates the ability to surface N|Solid process and system metrics into an existing monitoring system. Metrics are reported for all applications and processes through a single aggregated connection so individual process configuration is not required.
