Mag+ Releases Updates to Magazine Publishing Platform

Posted on Thursday, May 22, 2014 by STUART PARKERSON, Global Sales

Mag+ is an app publishing platform based upon an InDesign plugin and made for creating tablet and smartphone apps to publish documents such as magazines and other digital content products. The company has released its newest version: Mag+ 5, 2014-5. As with all Mag+ releases, the app is always backwards compatible to previous versions.

Highlights from this release include:

Automatic Updating: The plug-in can now automatically check for updates, or users can run a manual check. The Production Tool now automatically installs when running the installer for the plug-in –two-step installation is no longer required.

Search back in Library/Store: Mag+ has restored the search function for the Issues interface in both the iOS app and Android app. This helps app users find specific issues, by searching the title and description of the issue as entered in Publish. Users can choose to have the search function in-app or not as part of Build Options in Publish.

Choose Third-party Services: Mag+ offers a number of third-party services in apps, from analytics like Localytics and Omniture, to marketing tools like Appboy and eMagazines. In the past, the code for all the services was embedded in every app built. Starting with 5.1, developers can choose in Publish, when building an app, which services they want built into the app. Leaving out services not used also reduces the risk of an Apple rejection.

Auto-play Media Options: the platform always had the ability to set movies or audio to automatically play when a user arrives on a page, but with 5.1, there are more options which include have the media play on load, in view, in view per vertical and in view per issue.
