GitHub Releases Lots of Goodies for Developers

Posted on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 by STUART PARKERSON, Global Sales

The new year has barely gotten started and the folks at GitHub are busy at it as they have rolled out a number improvements.

Faster, More Awesome GitHub Pages
Now, when someone visits a Pages site, rather than GitHub serving the content directly, the page is served by a global Content Delivery Network, ensuring that the nearest physical server can serve up a cached page at blazingly fast speeds. A GitHub Pages site can now be protected with the same kind of Denial of Service mitigation services used for GitHub.com.

Happy (and faster) Publishing With GitHub Traffic Analytics
Developers can now see detailed analytics data for repositories that they are an owner of or that they can push to. Just load up the graphs page for a particular repository and there will be a new link to the traffic page. After landing on the traffic page developers will see a lot of useful information about their repositories including where people are coming from and what they're viewing.

Improving the GitHub SSL Setup
GitHub has improved its SSL setup by deploying forward secrecy and improving the list of supported ciphers. Deploying forward secrecy and up to date cipher lists comes with a number of considerations which makes doing it properly non trivial.

More Enterprise support in GitHub for Mac
GitHub for Mac now supports CAS authentication with GitHub Enterprise as of version 11.10.328 or later.
