Fast scalable web game design using Recraft

As the global web gaming market grows more competitive, game creators are increasingly turning to new tools to meet the demand for fresh content at speed. To stay ahead of the constant need for new visuals and game assets, the Playgama team adopted Recraft, an AI design platform that enables developers and designers to generate consistent, high-quality images and UI elements quickly. Recraft offered Playgama:

  • The ability to create both vector and raster visuals in a consistent style
  • Exceptional image generation quality, including images with text of any size and length
  • Tools to generate visuals with a consistent brand identity
  • An infinite library of styles optimized for game content
  • The ability to generate and remix custom styles
  • Dozens of AI-powered editing features

How to use Recraft for fast scalable web game design - Use case #1: Designing game covers and visual assets

One of the primary ways Playgama used Recraft was for generating high-impact visuals, especially cover art and app icons. These assets were vital for every game launched on Playgama.com and its distribution platforms. Among all visual elements, the game cover often played the most important role in drawing users in and could account for nearly half of a game’s engagement.

"Roughly 50% of a game’s success depends on the cover. Its visual appeal determines whether someone clicks on the game. Think of any gaming site, it’s full of flashy visuals and motion. You need a strong, standout image to get noticed and clicked," said Ivan Korzun, Design Director at Playgama.

By using Recraft, Playgama’s designers were able to generate polished, stylized covers that captured attention and remained cohesive with the game's theme, without needing to rely on manual design or generic stock templates.

Use case #2: Promotional and marketing visuals

Recraft also became a go-to solution for marketing campaign visuals. Whether preparing assets for app stores, social media, or ads, the tool helped streamline tasks like:

  • Enlarging low-resolution images without pixelation via the Upscale feature
  • Adapting visuals to different formats and sizes

"When we only have mobile-sized screenshots, we rely on Recraft to upscale them cleanly. The quality stays sharp, even on desktop screens. It’s a huge time-saver and much smoother than other tools we’ve used," said Ivan Korzun, Design Director at Playgama.

By integrating Recraft into their workflow, Playgama was able to produce marketing visuals that preserved quality and consistency across platforms, with no need for tedious manual resizing.

Use case #3: Visual brainstorming and creative sketching

For fast-paced design teams, Recraft also served as a powerful ideation tool. When the Playgama team needed to explore visual concepts or experiment with styles before choosing a final direction, Recraft made it possible to produce dozens of outputs within minutes.

With over 100 art styles, from minimalist vectors to textured illustrations, Playgama designers could quickly prototype creative ideas that felt unique.

Bonus Tip: Recraft allowed users to upload and apply their own brand color palette. Instead of manually editing colors in Photoshop, teams could inject the palette into the generation process, producing brand-consistent visuals instantly.

This approach significantly shortened the path from concept to final design by eliminating the need for multiple tools and manual steps.

Use case #4: Generating matching sets and game icons

One of Recraft’s most valuable features was the ability to generate cohesive sets of icons and UI assets in a unified style. This was particularly useful for creating game-ready content like:

  • Character avatars
  • Item icons
  • Interface elements

Pro Tip: Recraft allowed for generating up to six variations of a single concept at once. This made it easy to compare and choose the best direction without needing to restart the design process. This made Recraft ideal for scalable systems and games that required multiple related assets with a visually cohesive look.

Use case #5: Unique illustration styles for landing pages

Playgama also used Recraft to establish a distinct illustration language for landing pages. Defining a custom illustration style was often one of the most time-consuming tasks when building a new website. Recraft simplified that by allowing the team to experiment with different illustrator-inspired styles using reference images and prompts.

This approach enabled Playgama to quickly lock in a visual direction that felt both original and cohesive, without resorting to complex 3D rendering or hiring external illustrators.

"I needed to launch a site quickly and set a specific illustration tone. Recraft helped me find that style by generating visuals inspired by different illustrators and references. Doing the same manually would’ve cost much more in time and resources," said Ivan Korzun.

Whether brainstorming concepts, building polished visuals, or optimizing for multiple platforms, Recraft provided the Playgama team with the flexibility and speed needed to stay agile and creative in a fast-moving game development environment.
