Didn't Get a Ticket to WWDC Check Out These Alternate Events in San Francisco

Posted on Friday, May 27, 2016 by STUART PARKERSON, Global Sales

Apple’s annual WWDC developer conference is a notoriously hard ticket to get. And if you are one of the lucky ones, congratulations! For everyone else, you can still immerse yourself in all things Apple with other events that are being in San Francisco held during the week of June 13 - 17.

While you might not be able attend the actual event, you can still network and attend other Apple centric events. Two specific events you can register for include the AltConf and Layers.

AltConf - June 13-16

In its sixth year, AltConf is an annual event held in downtown San Francisco at the same time as Apple’s WWDC. The ‘alternative development conference’ offers a free gathering place with talks for everyone in the Apple community.

For 2016, AltConf will be a 2-track conference, running from Monday to Thursday. Monday will include live streaming of Apple’s Keynote with breakfast provided, followed by a panel discussion with familiar voices from the Apple blogging and podcasting community. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday offer attendees a chance to learn from experts in the field about subjects they not covered at WWDC16 such as indie life, app marketing, and how to make the industry more inclusive.

Layers - June 13-15

Layers is a 3-day indie design conference located a couple of blocks from WWDC that provides a wide range of content dedicated to design. Passes to the conference are $850 which allow access to all conference events.

Networking Opportunities

There are also a wide number of opportunities to network during WWDC. There are a numerous companies that host private events and if you know (or meet that week) the right person, you might just score an invite.

Public parties you can register for include The Beard Bash, which has become an annual event during WWDC which will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016. Another party on the same day features James Dempsey and the Breakpoints which offers a fundraiser for WWDCGirls App Camp for Girls.
