Corona's New Graphics 2.0 is Now Public Beta

Posted on Saturday, October 12, 2013 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Corona has been busy rewriting their Graphics library, and has recently made the Beta of their Graphics 2.0 available to Pro and Enterprise subscribers.

The new Graphics has been designed to allow everything to interoperate seamlessly, and to try and not breaking existing code. Lots of new features have been implemented from complex mesh geometry to feeding a live camera into an object and turning those into physics objects. A snippet from the release:

'For example, you'll be able to create all sorts of polygon shapes (convex or concave). Fill the interior of the shape with whatever you want -- images, gradients, frames of a texture atlas, and even procedurally-generated textures. And then do the same with strokes. Then apply any of over 80 Photoshop-quality effects, and tween the parameters of those effects to your heart's content.'

Now this is a Beta, and everyone's mileage will vary when using it. However, it is nice to see some improvements that can push what is possible with Corona SDK even further. With the recently added support for Ouya, Amazon IAP, and now this, Corona is showing they are not standing still and want to be the framework for your next game or app.
