Optolong filters are becoming essential tools for terrestrial stargazers as urban expansion worsens light pollution, making it increasingly difficult to capture clear night sky images. The growing urbanization has rendered many skies unsuitable for detailed astronomical imaging. However, with the right filters, such as those from Optolong, photographers can effectively counteract these effects. Historically, acquiring individual filters and filter wheels was a costly affair, but the Optolong L-eXtreme filter significantly enhances imaging capabilities, particularly in areas affected by artificial light.
The L-eXtreme 2" continues Optolong's legacy of improving astronomical imaging by selectively targeting specific emission lines. This filter differs from its predecessor, the L-eNhance, by focusing on two specific emission lines and omitting the H-beta line. It emphasizes a 7nm passband for H-alpha at 656nm and OIII at 501nm wavelengths-key spectra for nebulae emissions. Additionally, it excels in minimizing the effects of moonlight and urban light pollution. Designed for use with DSLR, Color CMOS, and monochrome CCD cameras, this dual-band pass filter combines exceptional craftsmanship with durability. It features a multi-layer anti-reflection coating developed through Ion-assisted technology, enhancing resistance to scratches and maintaining the central wavelength stability across temperature changes. The filter is encased in a thin CNC-machined housing and comes with a protective plastic case to safeguard the investment when not in use.
