Blockchain helps artists protect their work

Po.et has announced the release of Frost, An open API and set of developer tools. Frost allows content publishers and developers to more easily register creative works on the blockchain. Using Frost, users can interact with the Po.et Network with a basic username and password login, instead of running a full Po.et node. This API will enable new integrations and decentralized applications including a WordPress plug-in.

“Today’s media landscape is fragmented and reliant on manual processes,” said Tyler Evans, a member of the Po.et Foundation board. “At Po.et, we set out to build a simple, friendly platform that is intuitive for our users, but also enables a platform for developers to create innovative decentralized media applications.”

Developers who want to sign up and use Frost can visit the Frost website for instructions on how to make an account and create an API key. Po.et uses hashing and cryptography to register digital content ownership on the blockchain, where licensing and other terms can be recorded in a fraud-proof way. Content licensing terms are enforced using smart contracts; content owners can choose from available licenses or create their own.

“Partnering with Po.et advances our strategy to provide Maven publishers with the greatest tools available to drive maximum monetization, distribution, transparency and security,” said Maven CEO James Heckman, a Po.et advisor. “Maven’s vision and mission are perfectly aligned with Po.et’s. At the end of the day, we’re working to empower and protect independent publishers.”

The Po.et development team is building new applications and integrations with Frost, such as a plugin for WordPress. The plugin will allow bloggers and publishers to timestamp their works within the WordPress content management system automatically. Worldwide statistics show that more than 30 percent of websites on the internet are built on WordPress. Each of these websites will now have an easy way to access the Po.et’s network.
