AWS New QuickSight Offers CloudPowered Business Intelligence

Posted on Saturday, October 10, 2015 by STUART PARKERSON, Global Sales

Amazon Web Services has released in preview Amazon QuickSight, a new cloud-powered business intelligence (BI) service that allow all employees, regardless of technical skill, to build visualizations, perform ad-hoc analysis, and get business insights from company data.

Amazon QuickSight uses a new “Super-fast, Parallel, In-memory Calculation Engine” (SPICE) to perform advanced calculations and render visualizations rapidly. Amazon QuickSight integrates automatically with AWS data services, enables organizations to scale to hundreds of thousands of users, and delivers fast and responsive query performance to them via SPICE’s query engine.

Amazon QuickSight automatically discovers data in AWS data services and enables users to get insights from their data in minutes. With QuickSight, users can process and move data from these data sources into SPICE and keep the data in SPICE up-to-date with the data in the underlying sources. This saves users from having to manually write Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) queries for their data, or invest in ETL tools.

As users explore their data, Amazon QuickSight infers data types and relationships, issues optimal queries to extract relevant data, aggregates the results in the SPICE engine, and provides suggestions for the best possible visualizations of the data. SPICE supports rich calculations that help customers derive valuable insights from their analysis without provisioning or managing infrastructure.

Pricing for Amazon QuickSight starts at $9.00 per user, per month.
