Australian Startup BlackGears to Provide Branded Merchandise for In App Monetization

Posted on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 by RON BEAMAN, Writer

While it might makes sense for the largest app publishers to add branded merchandise to their monetization arsenal, most other non-retail app publishers are reluctant to take on the responsibility of selling and distributing actual physical consumer goods.

Startup BlackGears is betting that app publisher's reluctance will change with the company's new branded products service. BlackGears new program provides developers the option of offering branded products, with BlackGears providing the entire branded goods production and delivery cycle.

Using a BlackGears control panel, developers can select products to be printed with their specific graphics and logos, and then add code to their app to connect it to the BlackGears store. The company is initially offering t-shirts, mugs and caps with future offerings to be rolled out as developers start to utilize the service.
