Wacom Creative Canvas Was Developed Using Marmalade

Posted on Monday, October 7, 2013 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Marmalade – creators of the award winning cross-platform development tool – today announced that Wacom Co. Ltd. has used Marmalade to develop the ‘Wacom Creative Canvas’ – a graphic drawing application which has been embedded into their new professional creative tablet – ‘Cintiq Companion Hybrid’.

Wacom selected Marmalade for its impeccable native performance and ability to realise the raw power of their hardware. In doing so, Marmalade has enabled Wacom to maintain their reputation for meeting the demands of creative professionals.

Furthermore, using Marmalade meant that Wacom engineers had the freedom to code in the familiar language of C++ and deploy to a new platform – in this case Android. By targeting Android, Wacom are further increasing their dominance over the digitally creative market.

Global design tools leader Wacom demands the highest quality in its products. Marmalade has given the company the flexibility to provide pen-pressure support for the EMR technology on Android OS. It has also allowed the Wacom app to support an impressively high resolution of 3583 x 3584.

Harvey Elliott, CEO, Marmalade: 'We're thrilled to see Wacom adopt Marmalade's powerful cross-platform technology, proving that our open-standard C++ architecture has the capability and flexibility to support non-game app development. Wacom's specialist products really are the best in their field and Marmalade is delighted to assist their growth in the tablet market where they can reach even more creative professionals with this innovative app and product”.

Hartmut Woerrlein, Head of Global Product Management at Wacom: “We’re extremely happy with our decision to choose Marmalade to develop a high-quality drawing app for our new product ‘Cintiq Companion Hybrid’. Marmalade enabled us to develop the Android app in C++ using the familiar Visual Studio IDE, just like you develop an app for Windows desktop. The biggest challenge was to fulfil the creative professionals’ requirement to support extremely high-resolution and support Wacom’s leading pen-pressure technology. We strongly believe our app is one of the most powerful Android apps in the market”.

The collaboration has allowed Wacom to maintain their sterling reputation for developing high quality products and has also displayed the versatility of the Marmalade SDK. Wacom’s Cintiq Companion Hybrid will be available exclusively in Wacom eStores from mid of October 2013.
