VidyoWorks Launches API for Smart Glass App Development

Posted on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 by STUART PARKERSON, Global Sales

VidyoWorks for smart glasses is a solution that enables hands free video communication and collaboration for augmented reality and see-what-I-see applications. VidyoWorks delivers a scalable video coding (SVC) platform offering error resiliency and the ability to combine workflow integration, performance and scalability to deliver a wearable visual engagement solution.

The VidyoWorks mobile client APIs allows smart glasses application developers to embed real-time video, audio and content communication and collaboration into applications. The VidyoWorks solution provides the ability for developers to create applications for hands free see-what-I-see applications on smart glasses across industries including healthcare, field service, retail, energy, and government.

Vidyo’s dynamic adaptation technology works over variable wireless networks to deploy applications requiring remote expertise to see and provide guidance to field workers. With the VidyoWorks platform, smart glasses users are able to connect to video conferences with users on smart phones, tablets, desktop computers, dedicated video conferencing systems, unified communications clients, WebRTC browser based clients and workflow applications.

VidyoWorks on smart glasses enables hands free video collaboration to help enterprises more efficiently utilize centralized higher-cost resources like specialists across a broad base of lower-cost and geographically dispersed field technicians. This tele-mentoring approach can help ensure the right expertise is applied to every job and workflow is accurately documented, while minimizing operating costs.

Use cases include situations where companies can provide the ability for workers at remote sites to share video of what they see with more experienced workers to better diagnose and fix problems. These video interactions can be recorded and stored as evidence that a job was performed correctly using VidyoReplay.
