Introducing Pebble Steel and the New Pebble App Store

Posted on Monday, January 6, 2014 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Today, Pebble announces Pebble Steel, and the Pebble App Store along with several new partners.

Pebble Steel is a new, premium smart watch that takes everything users know and love about Pebble -- the same e-paper display, 5 to 7-day battery life and waterproof design -- and wraps it into a smaller, sleeker package. Starting today, you can order your watch from getpebble.com for $249, and orders will begin shipping on January 28.

The Pebble appstore, which will be available to consumers later this month, will live directly inside the Pebble app for iOS and Android. This means that users will easily be able to discover, search and install apps and watchfaces right to their wrist. Complete with apps for daily living, remote controls, notifications and more, Pebble’s App Store is the very first open platform for a wearable where developers can display their apps to Pebble users without building anything new or coding anything differently.

Pebble is also announcing new partners Pandora, ESPN and Mercedes-Benz to bring even more amazing watchapps to Pebble. These, along with watchapps from Yelp, Foursquare, GoPro, iControl and more, will all be available to consumers once the appstore launches.
