Free scholarships to Codecademy Pro up for grabs

Codecademy is now offering 10,000 scholarships to Codecademy Pro for free to K-12 and college students across the world for the rest of the school year.

The scholarships to Codecademy Pro include unlimited Codecademy programming, data science, and mobile development courses (thousands of hours), a community of peers, and paths to help students be successful. The curriculum is accessible and interactive so anyone can learn by doing.

CEO and Co-Founder Zach Sims said: “Our hope is that, while educational institutions are trying to catch up to remote learning, we can provide a service that helps fill the gaps and expose millions of students to a skill that will be helpful to their future. Moving to remote learning is hard, and we’ve been working on solutions for teachers, students, and adult learners for a while now.”

So far, over 7,000 students from 3,000 schools/colleges in over 85 countries have redeemed the scholarship offer, and the company is considering expanding the offering to even more students due to popular demand.

“We saw what's happened with students and teachers — mass school closures and schools that didn't have a plan for what to do with remote learning. This is where we can help — we've helped more than 45 million people around the world learn online since our founding. We can help teachers and their students stay on top of cutting-edge skills and hopefully find a silver lining in what is an otherwise terrible situation,” said Sims.

Codecademy's mission is to connect millions of people to economic opportunity.

Today, Codecademy has taught more than 45 million people around the world technology skills online. The online learning company gives people interactive, easy to use education in critical areas like web development, mobile development, data science, and more in order to help them prepare for the jobs of tomorrow. This is done mainly through their product Codecademy Pro, a community of more than 100,000 subscribers who pay $20-40/mo. for unlimited educational content, a community of people like them, and paths to show them how to find jobs.

When asked about the significance of these 10,000 scholarships, Sims said: “This is massively important. COVID-19 is leading to so many changes all at once — disruptions in finance, education, work, and more — and so much of our lives are moving online as a consequence. Online education is the only way for people to stay on top of their learning while kids are learning from home. We hope that what we've learned from 45 million learners can help many millions more during this difficult period. At the same time, we think Codecademy is also helpful for those that might be out of work as a result of this financial challenge. Learning to retrain for a new job is a sure way to better your opportunity set.”
