App Developers Can Launch Their Own Start up at AWS re:Invent

Posted on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

In 2013, five start-ups launched at Amazon Web Services re:Invent event and AWS is doing it again this year. For companies in stealth mode, it is an opportunity to use re:Invent to launch an AWS-powered mobile app or game to the world. For those that have already launched, the event can announce a new major feature. The application deadline is 5pm PST on September 30th to apply for the startup program.

Its part of the overall AWS re:Invent, which will be held on November 11 - 14, 2014 at The Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is centered on helping developers gain the knowledge and skills to refine a cloud strategy, improve developer productivity, increase application performance and security, and reduce infrastructure costs.

The event will include:

Deep Technical Content: AWS re:Invent is a learning conference with breakout sessions covering a broad range of topics and technical depth. All sessions will be delivered by subject matter experts, engineers, or expert customers who can share their real world experiences and lessons learned.

Amazon Fire Device Track: Learn from customers and Amazon experts on how to create Fire phone, Fire TV and Kindle Fire apps. Tracts will go in depth on how to create applications that react to customer actions with Fire phone’s Dynamic Perspective and Firefly technologies. Attendees will also hear how to reach new audiences with Fire TV. Top mobile developers will share their tips on monetizing and there will be behind-the-scenes details from the Amazon engineers who build these technologies.

Gaming Track: In this track, developers will learn how AWS services can enable the ability to scale a game from 1,000 to 1,000,000 players. The tract will cover common features such as leaderboards, game analytics, asynchronous gameplay, online multiplayer servers, multi-region deployments, and cloud streaming. It will also feature presentations from successful game companies using AWS to power their games.

Mobile & Connected Devices Track: Targeting mobile developers, connected device solution builders, or a business trying to be “Mobile-first,” the track provides skills to build fast and scale more easily. The Mobile & Connnected Devices track will give a detailed look at services like AWS cross platform mobile push notifications, Amazon Mobile Analytics and how to improve customer experiences across platform. There will be examples from companies that have already used AWS to power their mobile apps who will share their lessons learned.

Hackathon - Help Non-Profits Solve Big Problems: Start the AWS re:Invent experience early on Tuesday November 11 from 8am until midnight. The hackathon provides the opportunity for developers, AWS engineers and Amazon mobile app experts to work together to hack on big problems in support of a worthy cause. Space is limited with only 200 hackers allowed.
