2016 Android Experiments Google I-O Challenge

Posted on Monday, March 28, 2016 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

Last year the Android developer team launched Android Experiments offering a showcase of creative Android projects that provides the opportunity for any Android developer to submit their own experiments to the gallery.

The team has now announced the Android Experiments I/O Challenge which offers a chance for developers to win a trip to Google I/O 2016. From now through April 13, developers can enter by submitting experiments to the gallery. The top three winners of the contest will receive a trip to this year’s Google I/O to be held on May 18–20, 2016, and the five runner-ups will get a new Nexus 6P.

The project team explains that the Android Experiment provides an opportunity to utilize the unique capabilities of the Android platform in an innovative way. All projects on Android Experiments are open source. The team offers these suggestions for developers interested in making a submission:

- Creative uses of Android’s new or distinctive features.
- Projects that explore how people interact with devices, in small and big ways.
- Unique visual aesthetics.
- Open source projects that inspire other developers.
