Samsung Gear S Gets Opera Mini Web Browser

Posted on Monday, October 13, 2014 by STUART PARKERSON, Global Sales

Opera Software has announced that the Opera Mini browser has become the first web browser on Samsung’s Gear S smartwatch which runs on a Tizen-based wearable device platform.

With more than 250 million monthly users around the world, Opera Mini uses compression technology that shrinks the size of webpages to as little as 10%. The result is a faster and more energy-efficient browsing experience helping to load image-heavy pages.

Samsung’s Gear S users will benefit from the “mini” features of the Opera Mini browser including many finger-friendly features such as the Smart Page which gives users all their social updates and the latest news on one screen. Opera Mini’s Speed Dial offers website shortcuts as large buttons, enabling Gear S users to reach their favorite sites in a single tap. Private browsing removes any trace of the web pages visited on the wrist-gazer’s device.

Samsung Gear S owners will be able to download the Opera Mini browser from the Samsung Gear Apps Store for free.
