MyScript, a provider of handwriting recognition and digital ink management technology, has released a new Geometry Widget for iOS and Android, as part of its MyScript Shape Toolkit. The initial release targets secondary education mobile app use cases such as geometry assignments, lesson material creation, and educational games.
The Geometry Widget features technology which enables the recognition, beautification, and interactivity of handwritten geometry drawing on digital devices. It offers an interactive input method, enabling users to draw geometric shapes freehand with a finger or stylus.
The widget provides reliable geometric shape recognition. Rather than simply capturing digital ink as a series of images, MyScript technology analyzes and identifies more than 20 basic geometric shapes including triangles, rectangles, squares, circles, ellipses, arcs, and more.
The beautification feature enhances the presentation and layout of the hand-drawn shapes, improving orientation, horizontal and vertical alignment, and connections between shapes. This allows the end user to create a figure and transform the sketch from a rough idea to a precise drawing.
Shapes can be created, modified and mixed together using editing gestures. A single tap allows a user to select an item, while a scratch-out gesture erases items. Points can be drawn and named and gestures allow for easy manipulation of angles, lengths, and parallel lines.
